Description: This classic lasagna is a comforting, crowd-pleasing dish layered with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella. Perfect for family dinners or gatherings, it’s a timeless Italian-American favorite.
Ingredients (Serves 8):
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook lasagna noodles in boiling salted water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, and parsley (if using).
- In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Add a layer of noodles, then spread ricotta mixture, sprinkle mozzarella, and top with more sauce. Repeat layers, ending with sauce and a generous layer of mozzarella and Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Tips:
- For a vegetarian version, swap beef for sautéed mushrooms or zucchini.
- Make ahead and refrigerate unbaked lasagna for up to 24 hours.
- Freeze leftovers for a quick meal later.
