Description: This classic lasagna is a comforting, crowd-pleasing dish layered with rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melted mozzarella. Perfect for family dinners or gatherings, it’s a timeless Italian-American favorite.

Ingredients (Serves 8):

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles in boiling salted water until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until beef is browned. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, and parsley (if using).
  6. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Add a layer of noodles, then spread ricotta mixture, sprinkle mozzarella, and top with more sauce. Repeat layers, ending with sauce and a generous layer of mozzarella and Parmesan.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 10-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Tips:

  • For a vegetarian version, swap beef for sautéed mushrooms or zucchini.
  • Make ahead and refrigerate unbaked lasagna for up to 24 hours.
  • Freeze leftovers for a quick meal later.
